How AI & Software Development will change the world we live in.

28.08.2021

Artificial Intelligence is currently one of the largest technology fields which numerous companies are hiring within at present, it is also one of the most interesting topics of conversation I am having with candidates and clients alike.

Artificial Intelligence is being implemented within most - if not all - industries at present, as companies try to edge one another with the most advanced; cyber security, IoT device or car entertainment systems to name a few. This doesn’t just mean a “human” like robot walking around making a decision to end the world (we have all watched a film), but actually allowing a machine to make a decision when to close off a server/desktop due to a cyber threat or a manufacturing machine, to slow production to conserve power and not overheat. AI is being used as we speak in everyday situations and has now become cheap to use in certain environments: Cameras and Smartphones for example. This cost effective method through image recognition/analysis and more, allows the camera to see what is happening, scan for threats and create alerts in your car using RADAR/LiDAR or also known as ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) or even save the life of thousands by conducting offshore checks of windfarms, construction sites and in military situations by the use of drones.

I could go on and on with examples of why I find this such an interesting topic and the reasons as to why I enjoy talking about this, however I read this from a great article just to show you the importance of AI and wanted it to be highlighted:

"Of the 9,100 patents received by IBM inventors in 2018, 1,600 (or nearly 18 percent) were AI-related."

Here’s another:

"Tesla founder and tech titan Elon Musk recently donated $10 million to fund ongoing research at the non-profit research company OpenAI — a mere drop in the proverbial bucket if his $1 billion co-pledge in 2015 is any indication."

Staggering in numbers, but if this isn’t a big enough indication for you, then the fact that tech giants Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Apple combined are spending $20 billion a year on AI products and services, should be.

If you are working within Software Development, Machine Learning or Computer Vision for the use of AI, or simply have a passion within the field and are looking to move into this amazing area of development, please do not hesitate to get in touch and discuss this with me in more detail. I am no expert on the technical programming element, however, I would love to discuss the challenges that it brings within Software Engineering or even tell you about some of the other interesting articles I have read on the matter.
